Sigh Die
HOW DID YOU MEET
SHANE – Through social media. I was perusing looking for people to play with
in the scene and I ended up because me and Laura have a few mutual
acquaintences I started following her on Instagram. Eventaualy we
started jamming together
WERE YOU GUYS WRITING SONG BEFORE?
LAURA – No, he made an Instagram story saying “I'm looking for a drummer that likes this music” and I was like I'm a drummer who likes that music so I replied to his story.
SHANE – METZ, Chat Pile, Jesus Lizard stuff like that
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND
LAURA – We struggle to describe it
SHANE – If you've ever heard the Cows they're a band from Minneapolis from the 80/s 90/s
LAURA – I'm gonna have to listen to them.
WHAT SONGS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF
SHANE – I like Regret You is kind of cool because that was mostly on the spot. I also like This Town because I think it's kind of catchy
LAURA – I like Gum Chair even though it wasn't recorded how we wanted it to be. We recorded it too fast and we forgot a verse but I still like it.
SHANE – We did that all in one day, like that whole thing. Well most of it in one day I should say. It was a long car ride there and everyone was kind of tired. But we struggled through it and I think it came out pretty well.
IS THE VERSE GONE FOREVER?
LAURA – It's there live. It was when I went to record the vocals I went Oh we forgot instrumentally a verse. And I was like Well, we already packed up the drums.
WHERE WAS AL DENTE RECORDED?
SHANE – It was at a practice space that sort of kind of works as a [rehearsal]
LAURA – The JR Rehearsal space in Kitchener. And Tyson our friend in Guelph we picked them up and then we drove them to Kitchener to this rehearsal space.
YOU MADE THE TRECK ALL THE WAY FROM WHITBY?
LAURA – Next time we're recording we're going to kidnap Tyson, pick him up and take him to Whitby and record in our basement.
WHAT WAS THE BEST PART OF RECORDING
SHANE – I would say just how well it all came together to be honest with you. I think that it was all very cohesive for the most part.
LAURA – On the spot I told Tyson and Shane to record some back up vocals and they did on the spot so I liked that.
SHANE – It was Kick a Drum
LAURA – And sweating dynamite
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST MOMENT
LAURA – Running out of paid rehearsal time. Me texting the owner being like can we have one more hour
SHANE – And then Tyson's equipment wasn't working at the very beginning. It wasn't looking good at first but we managed to all pull through it all came together.
WHAT IS THE BEST BAND FROM WHITBY THAT MAY NOT COME TO TORONTO
LAURA – I would've said CINDER but they're half based in Toronto. Carl Escape? I don't think they've played their first Toronto show yet.
MESSAGE FOR THE AUDIENCE?
SHANE – Thanks for listening. And we hope to bring you more music that we're both proud of and you can enjoy.
LAURA – Hello.
